It's true that renting an apartment results in a
lot fewer expenses than owning a home. There is no grass to mow, no painting,
and no bills from the plumber for coming out at 3 a.m. to stop the water
leak.
Most renters also don't think they need insurance, which couldn't be futher
from the truth. Sure, the landlord has insurance on the buildings to protect
from fire, natural disasters and vandalism, but this does not cover the personal
belongings of the residents, additional living expenses if your apartment is
uninhabitable, or personal liability coverage.
Renter's insurance can also protect you and your
assets in the case of a liability lawsuit against you caused by an incident that
occurs within your apartment or elsewhere.
